Daniel J. Hilferty
Former CEO, Independence Blue Cross
Dan is the former Chief Executive Officer of Independence Blue Cross, one of the nation’s leading health insurers. Dan led the organization through a period of significant growth and expansion over his ten year tenure as CEO. He also served as President and CEO of AmeriHealth Caritas and as Senior Vice President of Government Affairs at Mercy Health Corporation. Currently, Dan is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Comcast Spectacor and serves as Governor of the Philadelphia Flyers. He oversees the company’s portfolio, including the Flyers, Wells Fargo Center, Spectacor Gaming, and other major sports and entertainment assets. After retiring from Independence in 2020, Hilferty founded Dune View Strategies, a strategic advisory firm that supports small and mid-sized healthcare companies and startups. He also led Philadelphia’s successful bid to become a host city for the FIFA World Cup 2026 and continues to serve as Chair of Philadelphia Soccer 2026. He serves as Lead Independent Director of Essential Utilities, Chair of Healthpilot and and a board member of FS Investments Credit Income Fund. He earned his undergraduate degree from Saint Joseph’s University and a master’s degree in public administration from American University. He lives in the Philadelphia area with his wife, Joan, and they have five children and five grandchildren.
