Jay Wright on Emotional Intelligence

I recently had the opportunity to spend time with one of college basketball's legendary coach's, Jay Wright, the former head coach at Villanova University. A two time Naismith Coach of the Year winner, and Naismith Hall of Famer, Jay's teams won two national championships in a three year period, participated in the Final Four-4 times, and perhaps most impressively his teams had a 100% graduation rate over a 21 years period. Even his numerous NBA players came back to graduate!

His leadership philosophy to develop his players holistically- mind, body and spirit, combined with a focus on a balanced attitude in all circumstances, led to a unique culture in elite level athletics. Simply stated, he did it the right way...and won.

I am blessed to have exposure and engagement with highly successful people within the world of business, sports, and now in healthcare. Listening to Jay discuss culture, attitude, character, and compassion, is consistent with conversations with Fortune 100 CEO's, builders of great businesses and GOATS within athletics. Emotional Intelligence (EQ) was one of the most powerful elements to his players successes on and off the court. In may ways, Jay's enduring legacy is beyond all of the W's. He shaped young men to become better people and Champions for Life. Gratitude from our sports loving society.

Be Well,
